Sara Gilbreath

Through vivid, surreal, and kitsch-inspired paintings, I explore the tension between sincerity and satire. My work transforms emotion, humor, and the grotesque into rich visual storytelling.

She works out of Beaverton, Oregon, sells at markets around Portland, and takes commissions year round. The name is literal. Paint for the canvases, pyre for the wood burning.

On canvas, on paper, in wood

Paint & Pyre brings several kinds of work together. There are commissioned pets and people, colorful original paintings, watercolors, small objects and pyrography. Paint is the color on a surface; pyrography is an image burned into wood.

A portrait commission starts with somebody else's subject. The originals leave room for Sara's surreal and kitsch-inspired imagery. The gallery holds both, with paintings, small work, card art and woodburning in their own rooms.

One ongoing collection

Feline Familiar Tarot

A full tarot collection made from 78 real cat commissions is another part of Sara's practice. The deck page brings together sample cards, the structure of the collection and how to ask about its current progress.
