A cat burned into a timber round. Sara's work ranges from paintings on paper and canvas to pyrography on wood.

Start with the work, then meet the artist

Buying from a local artist can begin with a market stall, a gallery visit or a website you return to more than once. Look for work you want to keep looking at. Notice the medium, size and the details that hold your attention, rather than feeling you need art-world vocabulary before asking a question.

Paint & Pyre is Sara Gilbreath's art practice in Beaverton, Oregon. Her site brings together pet portraits, original paintings, prints, small curios and woodburning, with market appearances around Portland. The gallery is a way to see her range before asking what is available.

Original, print or commission?

An original is the physical artwork the artist made. A print reproduces an image in another edition or format. A commission starts with a request for a new piece. All three can be meaningful purchases, but they answer different needs. Check the individual description rather than judging from a small photograph alone.

Ask what the listed dimensions describe, whether a frame is included and which materials were used. A photograph of a painting in a display does not necessarily mean that the display, frame or every nearby object is part of the purchase. Sara's Shopify shop is the place to check current listings.

Seeing art at a local market

In person, you can see the scale of a small painting, the surface of a canvas or the detail in a woodburned piece. If a piece catches your eye, ask whether it is an available original, an example of a past commission or a print. Ask how to contact the artist later if you want time to think.

For Paint & Pyre, check Sara's Instagram for current market announcements before making a trip. Her stall photographs are examples of past setups, not a schedule or proof she will be at a particular venue. The markets page explains how to find her current updates.

Commissioning locally, ordering from further away

For a new piece, explain the subject, approximate size, budget and any meaningful date. Send reference photographs and ask which medium or format fits the idea. Local does not automatically mean walk-in studio visits, collection or delivery; agree the practical arrangements directly with the artist.

If you are ordering from elsewhere in Oregon or the United States, check shipping options and timing before paying. Online access to a shop is not the same as a confirmed shipping service to every address. Whether you meet Sara at a market or discover her work from another state, start with the current listing or a direct conversation.

Explore the local art community

For wider local opportunities, explore Beaverton's Arts Program and Portland Saturday Market. These are places to discover the area's art community, not a list of Sara's confirmed appearances. Her own dates are shared through her market updates.
